ESI: Fire Safety is a small, specialist consultancy led by Jamie Morgan and supported by experienced fire safety professionals.

We don't believe good fire safety advice should leave you more confused than when you started. We take the time to understand your building, how it is actually used and what you're trying to achieve before recommending a way forward.

Our aim is simple: explain the risks clearly, help you meet your responsibilities and keep recommendations proportionate to what is genuinely needed.

Common questions

A few things people often ask us.

I'm not sure which fire safety service I need. Can you advise?

Yes. You don't need to diagnose the problem before speaking to us.

Tell us about your building, what has prompted the enquiry and anything you've already been asked to provide. We'll help you understand which service is most appropriate and what the next step should be.

What's the difference between a fire risk assessment and a fire strategy?

A fire risk assessment looks at an existing building and how it is currently being used, identifying fire hazards, the people who may be at risk and any improvements that should be considered.

A fire strategy is more concerned with how fire safety is designed into a building or project, for example during a new development, refurbishment, change of use or more complex alteration.

If you're unsure which one applies to your situation, speak to us and we'll help you work it out.

When might I need a DSEAR risk assessment?

DSEAR is concerned specifically with risks from dangerous substances and potentially explosive atmospheres.

It may be relevant if your workplace stores or uses flammable liquids, gases, vapours or combustible dusts, or carries out processes where those materials could create a fire or explosion risk. If you're unsure whether DSEAR applies, tell us what substances and processes are involved and we can advise.

Can you help with listed and historic buildings?

Yes. Historic buildings often need a more considered approach because fire safety requirements have to be balanced against the building's character, fabric and practical limitations.

ESI works with property professionals and building owners to find proportionate solutions rather than applying a standard approach without considering the building itself.

What areas do you cover?

ESI works across the South and South East of the UK.

For many services we can also advise remotely at the early scoping stage, so if you're unsure whether we cover your location, send us the postcode and we'll confirm.

What happens after I request a quotation?

Send us a few basic details about the building or project and what you need help with. We'll review the information, come back to you if anything needs clarifying and then explain the proposed scope of work and next steps.
